Easy essential oil bath salts for relaxation

Easy DIY bath salts

I am loving expanding my uses of essential oils. I have been wanting to try making this bath salt for a long time and finally got around to it. Knowing what is in the products I put on and in my body is important to me. The recipe was fast and easy, and I’m so glad I finally tried it! Here is my DIY easy essential oil bath salts for relaxation.

Easy DIY bath salts

Magnesium for the ADHD win

Epsom salt, despite it’s name, actually breaks down into magnesium in water. Check out my recipe here for magnesium lotion. This is currently our most common application of topical magnesium. Adding topical magnesium was one change we made that really made a difference with Little Bit’s emotional regulation. Emotional dysregulation can be one of the most disruptive aspects of ADHD! Read here about how topical magnesium saved our family get together. It is so important to balance for mental health. Digestion and muscles rely on magnesium too. Although scientific backing is lacking, here is an article from Cleveland Clinic that discusses the use of Epsom salt baths in integrative medicine.

Relaxing bath salts for the gymnasts

No sooner did our chiropractor get Biggs feeling better after a face plant off the bars, that she had a new reason to be sore. This time it was skimming the vault and landing headfirst in the pit. Always an adventure! But with frequent aches and pains from the pounding of competitive gymnastics, we always have epsom salts on hand. Read my post here about many of the remedies we use for gymnastics aches and pains. So Biggs got to be the first to try out the bath salts. She loved the smell and relaxation. Little Bit got in on the action too. They both slept great that night!

Why essential oils

Check out my post here for essential oils I use for ADHD management for Little Bit. We love the benefits of the low side effect intervention. Read my post here about uses of essential oils for gymnasts. There are so many ways we use them! It only makes sense to add the essential oil to desired effect to your bath salts. For this one we were going for relaxation of muscles and the mind. For an invigorating, refreshing morning, you could use a citrus blend. Or perhaps eucalyptus to fight a respiratory bug like I used in these shower melts.

Directions for bath salts

Combine all ingredients in a medium size bowl and mix well. I love this set for mixing and measuring all of my DIY creations. Divide into airtight containers (I used these jars for a cute gift presentation), or use immediately. Use approximately 1/2 cup of bath salts per bath. Relax and enjoy!
